Foundation – We use pressure treated 2 x 4 plates under all of our floors. These pressure treated plates set on concrete block (included in the price of the building) or a concrete slab provided by the customer, giving a firm and long lasting base for any shed.

Floors – All Idaho Wood Shed wood floors are either 2 x 4 studs at 16″ on center or 2 x 6 at 16″ on center. We can also go 12″ on center for an extra heavy duty floor.

Floor Deck – All of our wood floors are covered with 3/4″ plywood flooring.

Walls – Our walls consist of a full 2 x 4 stud with a quality pre-primed Hard Board siding in either an 8″ vertical groove or a horizontal lap siding. Larger buildings are framed 16″ on center with full top and bottom plates.

Trim – All Hand-Selected 1 x 4 wood trim for easy maintenance and longevity.

Roofing – We use 7/16 OSB(Oriented Strand Board) on all of our roofs, which is also used on most houses. We cover the roof with a 25 Year Owens Corning Supreme shingle, guaranteed not to leak. Metal and Custom shingles also available.

Doors – Your choice of a 4″ wide wood swing door, Steel Roll up door in 4′, 6′, 8′, and 9′ widths, or our 36′ Steel house door.

Its apparently too difficult to find any in the usual places common sense might suggest we look the public library, the literature section of our local home center, DIY magazines and other related monthly wood working publications on shed building and even on the internet.

I Got Shed Building for Dummies Last Christmas

Christmas time came last winter and guess what my wife decided that I was going to do for her? Well she decided that come springtime I was going to build her a shed; she gave me no option to that idea because she got me the Shed Building for Dummies book for a present. I thought that I got cheated on that one for sure, but it turned out that the Shed Building for Dummies book was just what I needed.

I am the guy who jumps into a project and usually don’t have much of an idea what it will look like when it is completed. Nor do I know how long it will take or how much it will cost. I usually will draw a rough sketch of what I think I want and go from there. I always end up making many trips to the local building supply store to buy more lumber because I made a basic mistake in my sketch. After reading the Shed Building for Dummies book I stopped doing that. I now buy a professionally drawn set of plans and save lots of money and time.

It is a very bad idea to try to build a large building like a shed without a set of plans. The good ones always come with a material list so you only need to make one trip to purchase your materials. Good plans usually come with a cut list so you can cut all the parts and pieces of your shed ahead of time. That one feature alone will save you lots of assembly time.
