Shed Building – Building Prefab Sheds
Professional Builder
Many people opt for professional help to build their shed. Not a bad idea considering the cost of some of the shed kits. A pro can also get the job done in a day, versus 2 weekends for the novice. And he or she will have it done right the first time, with no damage to material. Yes, it will increase the cost, but not anywhere near as much as a bad measuring mistake could cost. Same goes for the foundation work, unless you actually know what you are doing, get someone who does involved. It’s much less expensive in the long run. Taking the least expensive route is not always the best way, we have all learnt that mistake the hard way sometimes.
Other Build Considerations
Permits – make sure you’ve read through our permit page for information on what you need to have in place before your shed even gets delivered. Do NOT skip this step! Also – double check on where electrical and natural gas and water lines run on your property. You don’t want to hit one of these doing the foundation.
Delivery – have some patience here. Unless it’s a local company you’re dealing with, shed kit manufacturers will be dealing with freight brokers who don’t have complete control over the trucks. Accidents and breakdowns can happen, delaying delivery.
Make sure you have some flexibility on when your shed gets delivered. Make sure you ask for specifics on delivery – and ask them to be honest about what your expectations should be. Better to be realistic then be disappointed. We all know how frustrating it can be to sit around and waist a day or even more, waiting for something to be delivered.
Landscaping around your Shed
While you’re sorting out the foundation issues for your shed – this is a good time to get any desired landscaping done. Large trees may need to be trimmed, new large plants, and trees are easier to put in when the shed’s not in the way. If you are handy with a pencil it might make it easier for you to do some quick and easy sketches of what you want around your shed. This will give a good idea of what needs to be done before and what needs to be left until the shed is complete.
Leave the grass sod or seeding, and small plants and flower planting until after the shed has been completed. There will be a lot of coming and going, and materials thrown around until the build is complete and the site has to be cleaned and raked. You don’t want to have already spent hours planting and landscaping, only to have it ruined whilst the building of your shed is taking place.
Shed Electrical
If you have decided to have the benefits of electrical usage in your shed then there is advantages of thinking ahead for this. While you’re doing the foundation you’ll want to run underground electrical lines to your shed. This way it’s all very neat and tidy – and again, it’s easier to do this before the shed is being built.
Plumbing
As with electrical the same applies for plumbing – run your main lines before the shed is delivered. Then everything is there ready for hookup during the shed construction process. Once again thinking ahead for your plumbing will make things so much easier.
