Storage Shed Accessories

When it comes to shed accessories there is no shortage of supply. You can find an accessory to meet any need.

Whether you want to dress up your shed or organize it there are accessories available for every task.

One of the best shed accessories you can add is the addition of a solar shed light. Not all storage sheds are equipped with a light, or located close enough to a power source to run electricity to it.

That’s what makes a solar shed light so convenient – you don’t have to worry about wiring or the proximity of a power source.

Plus, hooking up your solar shed light is easy. You simply attach the solar panel to the exterior of the shed, and the light inside the shed, and you’re done. No electrical wires or breaker boxes to deal with, and no need to call an electrician.

Here’s 2 popular solar shed lights from a site I recommend…

Duramax, which is one of the most popular brands of sheds, produces a track system that makes easy work out of organizing a storage shed.

You are not limited to how you organize by this system, because you design it to fit your needs. You buy the track and then you can add hooks and hangers as needed.

One of the most essential storage shed accessory is the addition of tool racks or organizers. Nothing is more aggravating than having to dig through all your stuff trying to find the one tool you need.

Keep all your tools in reach with one of these organizers…

There are a variety of shelving options that can be added to your storage shed to increase the amount of available floor space in your shed.

Most shed manufacturers produce their own lines of shed accessories that are specially designed to fit their sheds.

Here’s a few popular shelving units…

If you have a smaller shed, or a shed made of lightweight material such as metal, vinyl, resin, etc. you should strongly consider anchoring your shed to the ground.

Anchoring your shed is relatively quick and easy to do. Here are few popular anchoring kits…

Storage Sheds – The Un

Vinyl has the advantage of being maintenance free. However vinyl is lower on the visual attractiveness scale. Metal sidings include aluminum, which is light and when anodized gives a good look and lasts a long time. Steel sidings, though cheap, should be avoided as they rust easily. Metal sidings have the least appealing look. Vinyl coated steel has a long life and gives good strength. Rubbermaid and poly vinyl chloride sidings are maintenance free, requiring no painting, no rust treatment and no rot or pest treatment. One thing that should be looked into while selecting siding material is that the siding material should match with the main building siding material. A different siding material may give a contrasting look to the storage shed.

Do It Yourself Kits Vs Professional Installation

Storage sheds can be professionally installed as well as self assembled. Usually for easy assembly, the parts are numbered in self-assembly type storage shed kits. Also assembly instructions are provided with storage-shed kits. Self-assembly may save money and can be a satisfying though difficult experience.

Sizes & Accessories

The usual sizes of storage sheds are, 12′ X 24′, 12′ X 30′, 12′ X 10′, 10′ X 14′, 10′ X 8′, 8′ X 6′ etc. It is better to opt for a double door. For those who want to keep light engineering machines, a good foundation is necessary. Other accessories that come with storage sheds are windows, shutters, weathervanes etc. Hooks and shelves increase the capacity of the storage shed by utilizing vertical space. The windows should be so designed that they match with the main building.

Building Codes and Laws

In various states there are laws on sheds like zoning ordinance, building codes, deed restrictions, building permits, siding materials etc. It is prudent to go through these before installing a storage shed.

Storage sheds are available in various shapes, colors, patterns and sizes. They can be customized to suit an individual’s taste. Smaller sheds are called tool sheds. Larger sheds called barns are used to house vehicles, boats and other large items. The prices range from $300 to $4000 depending upon size, material and accessories in the storage shed.

Choosing a Small Storage Shed

A small storage shed is great when you just need that little bit of extra space for storing things such as garden tools, your recycling bins, or even just bulbs you plan on planting in the springtime. You may not need a large garden shed and quite possibly not have room in your garden for one.

These versatile buildings are also referred to as mini-sheds, horizontal or vertical storage sheds. They are almost like furniture and only take up a small corner of your garden, they can be as decorative as they are functional.

A small storage shed can be made from a variety of materials depending on your needs, skills and where in your garden you are going to place it. The most commonly used construction materials include timber, heavy duty plastic and metal. If you are looking for ease of set-up the plastic storage box wins hands down. The metal shed and timber kit shed are next easiest requiring minimal flat-pack construction skills. These two normally come completely equipped with all the materials you need to put the shed together.

Possibly the most satisfying, but more time consuming to put together, is the option of constructing a small shed using a set of shed plans. This way you can build something to exactly suit your needs for space, style and colour scheme.

If you already have a colour theme running through your landscape and garden the choice of colour will be important to you.

Plastic and metal sheds normally come in a limited range of colours, mainly shades of green, brown and cream.

A timber shed, on the other hand, gives you almost infinite choice. If you construct your shed using un-painted timber (either from a kit or from scratch), you can stain it or paint it the colour of your choice.

Vertical storage shedLooking like a large outdoor weatherproof storage cupboard these make a great place for you to store spades, shovels, and other long garden tools. They should also include a few shelves for keeping your gardening gloves, trowel and flower pots to hand.

Moving on from the most basic form, these sheds can be dressed up with a little imagination to look like a sentry box or an old fashioned phone box in the English countryside.

Before making your choice check that the one you choose is tall enough to accept your gardening equipment, most tools such as forks and spades are fine but rakes do have a handle that is a bit longer and require more height.

Horizontal storage shedAnother popular format is the horizontal storage box. Looking a bit like an oversized toy chest, the lid is usually hinged, levered or roller style for easy access. This type of shed is often used for storing deck chairs, barbecues and other outdoor equipment.

You know. things that are more horizontal than vertical!

Mini-storage shedMoving up in size slightly, small pent and gable style storage sheds are great for securely storing bicycles so that they are protected from the weather yet easily to hand when required.

Finally, mini-sheds provide you with a great place to store your wheelie bins and recycling boxes. There is nothing worse than getting up on a Monday morning to find your trash strewn across the yard by the local animal population

A small storage shed is the perfect solution for keeping your outside equipment safe and secure without taking up too much of that valuable growing space.

Constructing A Wooden Shed Plans – Construct Your Shed With Your Folks

There are tons of folks that like to discover how to build a garden shed, and it can be tricky work, especially if you have never done before! There are several methods to learn how to build a shed and the way that I recommend most is to buy a storage shed kit. The shed kits will be available at places like Lotus, Home Depot, and even on the internet.

Advantages of shed kits are it is very easy to follow, and they include detailed step-by-step instructions and regularly include diagrams. They save your time and bother of building a shed from scratch they also save your cash because you will not have to hire someone to do it for you.

Before you learn how to build storage shed, you need to first work out what sort of equipment you’ll use. The hottest are vinyl, wood and metal (aluminium). The vinyl is beginning to become more favored of late and the rationale is perhaps because you don’t need to color, and you shouldn’t ever worry about it rusting.

As you learn how to build a garden shed, you will realize that there are many details involved that you can’t ignore. If you opt to build a wooden shed, there are several sorts of timber that you can choose. The trick is to avoid green wood and wood bland. These kinds of wood tend to split simply when dry, so be sure you select a timber that will not do this. Lumber kiln is a favored choice for storage sheds.

If you don’t want to buy storage sheds kit, you can also find out how to establish a shed with software. There are many available and popular, which is available online.

If you are not extremely enthusiastic about purchasing software, or don’t purchase any storage sheds kit, there are options to select from. If you search the internet you’ll find plans for garden sheds for awfully cheap, and also freely. These shed plans are really detailed and easy to follow. They’re fantastic if you would like to discover how to build a shed. They’re sent to you thru e-mail once you pay them, so you won’t must wait days or weeks to deliver them by post.

Building your own storage sheds could be a fun project for everyone.

Storage Shed Plans

There are lots of storage shed plans available online to help you fill the perfect space in your landscape. Storage sheds can be a convenient solution for keeping seasonal or little used items available but out of the way, and the addition of storage can help make your household run more efficiently and increase the value of your home.

When evaluating potential storage sheds, build your own or prefabricated, keep scale in mind. A small yard that’s dwarfed by a shed can be an eyesore and cast more shade than you might want on your lawn and flowerbeds. Take some time to consider these things too:

Permits

Beyond scale, you should contact your zoning commission to learn about any restrictions on the height or overall size of a planned addition. You may need a permit to build, or a permit might be conditional based on size, in which case a small shed may be free of permit regulations that require the submission of a formal building plan. The more you know about how the laws in your area relate to your project, the better you’ll be able to decide how you want to proceed.

Location

As in all real estate, location matters. Most zoning laws have guidelines indicating that sheds be located a specific limited distance from property lines. The locations of any gas, phone, water, electric or cable lines will be important too. You won’t want to have to dismantle your shed to access underground lines if you can help it, so make sure that your proposed spot is clear. This will probably require a few calls to your city offices and local utilities for additional information.

You’ll also need a level spot, or will need to make it level, which will require additional work to create a stable foundation. If you want the shed wired for electricity, there may be ramifications for both the construction of the shed and the creation of a poured or gravel foundation. The more straightforward these elements are, the less work and expense will be involved in building your shed.

Wood and Other Materials

Choosing the right materials is another thing to keep in mind. If you’re using plans and embarking on a do-it-yourself project, you’re probably planning on using wood. The better quality wood you choose, the less maintenance will be necessary after the deck is built. Typically, lower graded wood and plywood have imperfections and knots that can make them difficult to work with and may create weak spots. You can choose a pine product that’s been pressure treated for outdoor use. These woods often have a green cast and have been impregnated with copper and other compounds to make them resistant to rot and termites. Pressure treated pine is a good alternative to high priced woods, like redwood or teak, but are more expensive than plywood or untreated wood.

Hardware is a consideration too. Whenever possible, use galvanized nails and screws to control rust.

The Vertical storage shed: Storage without wasting floor space

The Verticalstorage shed is built with space saving in mind. If you’veonlygot a small backyard or want some extra storage in your garage orbalcony, then this type of shed could be just what you need.

Usuallyup to 6’ tall, a vertical shed is often two to three feet wide andprovides plenty of storage that doesn’t take up a lot of floorspace. These types of shed usually don’t have any windows butstill have a double or single door, allowing you to store your thingseasily. They fit snugly into any corner and offer great valueformoney, with prices from just a couple of hundred dollars.

Aside from storage space that doesn’t waste floor space, there are a number of otheradvantages to a vertical storage shed:

Ifyou’re buying a vertical storage unit in a kit, the materials used aretypically plastic, vinyl or metal. You’ll find them reallyquickto assemble and the panels just snap together.

If youreally want a shed made from wood, you could have a vertical tool shedcustom-made for you by a local carpenter. Or if you are goodatDIY you can buy vertical shed plans or design and build yourown shed. You can then use the style of wood you like andcreatea vertical storage cabinet to suit your garden.

Vertical garden sheds really come into their own when it comes tolong-handledtool storage. They’re tall and narrow, so perfect for keepingyour rakes brooms, spades etc inside. Some have built infloor grids toholdtools upright neatly and you can add shelves in many designs tomaximise your storage space along the walls.

If you only have asmall garden, a vertical storage shed is a good choice forkeepingthings looking neat and tidy, with your tools away from potentialthieves and weather damage.

Justone word of warning when it comes to vertical storage sheds – thewind. Due to the extra height of the shed and smallarea of the base, they’re more likely to topple over! Thiscouldbe particularly dangerous if you’re putting your shed on a balcony, where high winds could knock it over and tools fall over the edge, putting pedestrians underneath at risk. To solve thispotential problem anchor your shed to the wall it is standing against. If it is a pre-fabricated shed it will most likely come with a fixingpacl for this purpose. Also consider placing it in a locationsheltered from the wind byplacing it next to your home or garage.

• TheSuncast GS1250B vertical tool shed isgreat if you’re really limited for floor space. It gives you20cubic feet of storage but is only 31” wide. It comes with afloorramp and foot lock for easy access and built in supports forshelves. Amazon are selling this shed at just$134.99.

• TheRubbermaid 3746 vertical storage shed givesyou 52 cubic feet of space but is still small enough to put into thecorner of your garden or inside your garage. You’ll findthere’senough room for patio furniture, a small lawnmower as well as yourgarden tools. It’s very easy to put together, just a goodbangwith a rubber mallet and the sides slot together. It comeswith afloor grid for tools up to 5 foot long, with grooves for extrashelves. It’s an olive sandstone colour. Shoparound on theinternet and you’ll be able to get it for a few hundred dollars.
